GPT requires the services of a Junior GIS Specialist to be stationed at the Pretoria office.
Essential skills
Professional aspects:
- Capture environmental data through form interfaces
- Compile borehole logs using applicable software after applicable training received
- Create accurate and correctly projected basic maps using automated drafting software
- Create accurate and high-quality basic cross-sections after sufficient training received
- Ensured initiative and continuous improvements in GIS service (research and development)
- Research on new GIS technologies
- Develop new methods/technologies for solving spatial data problems
- Implement new GIS standards
- Keep up with developments in the geo-spatial industry
- Plan and perform GIS analysis to address organisational strategic objectives
- Capture spatial data from various formats and sources
- Source spatial information from various data custodians
- Advise on coordinate systems and projections
- Produce customised maps to meet requirements
- Provide geographical support to internal and external stakeholders
- Maintain GIS unit effectiveness
- Maintain GIS tools
- Updating of GIS software and renewal of licenses
Business aspects:
- Effectively follow strategies developed by management to reach targets and ensure productive hours are achieved
- Ensure projects are completed within budget
- Ensure work quality meets and exceeds client expectations
- Plan and designate project resources within timeframes
- Keep stakeholders informed during the entire project, from kick-off to completion
- Manage change if and when change arisen using both client’s and GPT’s management of change procedures
Qualification and minimum requirements:
- Honours Degree in Geographical Information Science, Geography, Cartography or relevant formal qualification essential
- 1-2 years’ relevant experience within a consulting environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite compulsory
- Knowledge and capabilities of different GIS software applications, especially QGIS
- Theory, principles and practices of GIS standards
- GIS skills: geocoding, spatial query building, geo data structures, remote sensing and map creation
- Geographical knowledge of South Africa an advantage
- Knowledge of IT systems an advantage

GPT requires the services of a Junior Hydrogeologist to be stationed at the Pretoria office. Preference will be given to affirmative action candidates from designated groups.

- Ensure GPT and client SHEQ strategies implemented across unit
- Manage change if and when change arisen using both client’s and GPT’s management of change procedures
Professional aspects:
- Plan, and in some cases, lead fieldwork, routine water, soil and rock sampling
- Assisting, and in some cases, leading the execution of site assessment and remediation activities on a variety of mining sites
- Groundwater assessments and monitoring
- Environmental impact assessments data collection
- Drafting of routine monitoring/compliance reports based on data obtained from the field, for review by a senior consultant – with basic interpretation of field data
- Clear communication of fieldwork activities, data and findings to a senior consultant and/or project manager
Qualification and minimum requirements:
- Honours Degree in Geology / Hydrogeology
- 0-2 years’ experience in environmental consulting
- Valid driver’s license and own transport
- Conversant in MS Office
- Provide credible references
