GPT requires the services of a Field Technician to be stationed at the Cape Town office.

Essential skills

Business and Professional aspects:

• Effectively manage fieldwork onsite from start to completion (with appropriate equipment selected)
• Plan and execute fieldwork, routine water, soil and rock sampling
• Accurately and timely capture field data through form interfaces
• Implement client safety management systems on each project
• Communicate adequately with clients, client representatives, dealers or site owners on site where fieldwork is carried out
• Ensure work quality meets and exceeds client expectations
• Cost-effectively utilise, manage and maintain vehicles, equipment and PPE
• Carry out any needs related/ad-hoc duties to ensure the general running of the company

Qualification and minimum requirements:

• Matric Certificate
• 3-5 Years’ fieldwork experience related to environmental impact assessments, hydrocarbon contamination assessments and groundwater would be beneficial
• Valid driver’s license – non-negotiable
• Has good practical knowledge of environmental industry field SOPs, QA/QC procedures and protocols
• Should the applicant be in possession of any valid training related certificates related to the industry (e.g. first aid, firefighting, permit to work training, etc.) this will count in the favour of the applicant
• Ability to communicate clearly in English
• Be in good health (entry and annual medical examination will be mandatory)

Inherent requirements of the job:

• Adequate verbal and written communication and technical writing skills
• Good communication skills to facilitate data transfer to project manager
• Always on time to conduct fieldwork
• Be able to work under pressure
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Also be able to work in a team environment
• Planning, organising and execution of fieldwork site specific requirements
